She made this statement during her visit to the capital’s referral hospital mortuary at Connaught to donate water and minerals to the disaster rescue teams and also to sympathize with families of the flood and landslide victims.  Madam Fatima Bio says it is hard time the government made a public pronouncement of the disaster that has resulted to huge magnitudes of deaths, destruction of billions of properties rendering thousands of residents in and around Freetown homeless.

‘’The government in my estimation should declare these sad and fatal incidences that have befallen our country within just a day and have culminated to hundreds of deaths as a national disaster. This is so because the National Disaster Response Team lacks the capacity and their response plan is not robust enough to respond accurately to the magnitude of disaster that have occurred’’ said Madam Fatima Bio, wife of Retired Julius Maada Bio.

The wife of the Retired Julius Maada Bio, one of the Presidential Aspirants under the Sierra Leone Peoples Party, Madam Fatima Bio said it would be prudent for government to declare the flood and landslide incidents as a national disaster in order to solicit external support and response. She describes the situation as a sad moment as there are survivals that have lost almost all of their family members. ‘’Such survivals are in shock and need immediately canceling and the victims need comprehensive support’’ Madam Fatima Bio concludes.
