“We are also responsible for carbon dioxide reduction in the environment and provide the guide on directives of environmental protection, manage pollution and work with other departments on implementation and monitoring of environmental issues like wildlife, wetlands, and desert.
Mr. Wan Jun of the Chinese Academy for Environmental Planning said lots of progress has been made in the last five years since the 18th Communist Party of China (CPC) Congress. This, he said is because the CPC Central Committee lays great premium on environmental protection and management.
“They have come to realize that this is a serious issue and President Xi Jinping has decided to build a stronger ecological management in the country. The Chinese People also are aware of the fact that there is a need to have a good environmental protection and green development, which is why they have joined the government to ensure an effective environmental management,” Wan said, and further states that they have launched Action Plans to declare war against air and water pollutions and have taken action to improve on green development, carbon dioxide emissions reduced and has made China become the biggest country on new energy and renewable energy.
He revealed that over forty major reform plans have been launched and have gotten the support of government and major enterprises in China.
Law enforcement, he noted, are rigorous than before, and there is an improvement on environmental measures such as the quality of air, whilst has the same time China has maintained to be a major contributor to the protection of the ozone layer and have obeyed and implemented all international conventions and protocols.
“Series of reports and documents have been launched on ecological management and protection. The CPC Central Committee laid emphasis on build a strong economic, social environment, and to ensure a shared commitment to ecological management and green development,” says Mrs. Li Xuan of the Policy Research Center for Environment and Economy.
In her presentation, Mrs. Lu Diyin of the China-ASEAN Environmental Protection Center said they have increasingly been supported countries under the South-South cooperation, which is mostly done under a multilateral framework. She said China has taken part in global environmental protection and management and has contributed a lot.
Mr. Yang Lirong, Director of Foreign Economic Cooperation Office said China has joined over thirty environmental conventions and protocols, and have worked with developing countries by helping build their capacities on environmental management. “We have succeeded in setting up an Environmental Compliance Technical Centre for an effective and efficient work be done at all times,” he said.
