They also assured the party to have collected their voter cards to enable them cast their votes for APC as they still have confidence in the leadership of the party and the nomination of Dr Samura Kamara and Hon. Chernor Bah to run for the 2018 presidential elections.

The supporters who were mostly young people emphasized the importance of the visit of the future vice president and his entourage, saying that it gave confidence and revitalized their hope for the future of this country.

According to them, the nomination of the deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Chernor Bah was a clear testimony by President Ernest Bai Koroma’s enduring legacy and promise to develop the youth sector and youth participation in governance.

Addressing the happy crowd, the APC running mate, Hon. Chernor Bah, thanked the people especially young people and the Executive of Constituency 130 for the gathering, adding that his visit was not to campaign but to thank them on their nomination as president and vice president in the coming elections in March 2018.

The Deputy Speaker furthered that they should realize that the 2018 elections is a transition but it would not be difficult for them if all of them go and collect their voter cards.

Hon. Chernor Bah noted that they are all equal in the APC and that no one tribe or region has monopoly of the party as it is in other political parties, adding that the strength of the party continues to rest in the hands of the youth, guided by the wisdom of the elders.

He encouraged the young people to continue to repose confidence in the party and in his nomination, something that they should take advantage of and take the lead to get what they want.

According to him, young people and women are the landlords of the APC and so they should do everything to retain power, adding that they took the governance of this country from nowhere and that in 10 years now all of them know what President Koroma has done.

He noted further that the Government has improved on electricity and water supply, increase agricultural productivity, infrastructure and other significant transformational development nationwide, and that the introduction of the free health care has also made tremendous impact in the lives of the people.

He revealed that as a responsible Government they are not satisfied, which is why they continue to make frantic efforts to improve on those facilities, noting that it is why Parliament continues to be busy even at its dissolution period.

Hon Bah said very soon the problem of electricity and water supply in some parts of the country and among other things would be a thing of the past, saying that it was better to elect people to State House who know the issues as they have been doing to change the lives of the people and not the kind of change others were shouting about.

He emphasized that no other political party could do it better than APC and that the change the other parties were talking about was a sham. “What kind of change are they bringing?” the erudite MP asked.

“APC is not a violent party although others are teasing us but we are in governance and we are in the better position to win the next elections and so we will not allow them to persuade us towards violence,” he noted.

He said any politician who comes to campaign to them, people should ask them not what APC has done but what they have done as everyone already have a lot of experience and should refuse lies or sweet talks.

According to Chericoco, he had spoken to Julius Maada Bio, Dr. Kandeh Yumkella and others and he has assured them of a violence-free election and that their nomination by the party was a ticket for the Republic of Sierra Leone and not for one particular region or a particular tribe.

He stated that he was born in the Western Area and is married to a wife who comes from the East, while Dr Samura is from the North and his wife is from the South – thus if they are elected the power would be in the four corners of the country.

The APC Western Region chairman who is also the Minister of Trade, Capt. Rtd. Alieu Pat- Sowe highlighted the progress the APC led-administration has made and that the nomination of the two fine gentlemen was deliberate to sustain the enduring legacies of President Koroma.

He disclosed that the voters had all the reasons to continue to vote for the party as they were better than those who wanted to come now, adding that some of them were in governance before and did nothing yet they want to come and confuse the people with all sort of lies.

The Minister of Trade continued that as leaders they know that they still have people who have served the party and have not yet benefited, he encouraged them not to relent as good things are waiting for them.

He also narrated his political journey and how his father had worked for the party but he could not point at any benefit at the time, and yet today “His son is a minister and regional chairman of the same party. I was also part of the race to succeed President Koroma but was unsuccessful but I still have the courage to work for the party,” he said.

Hon Pat Sowe also admonished aspirants and their supporters not to say wrong things against others as they in APC are one and would need one another because only one person has to secure the symbol in any constituency.

According to him, he had all the reasons to fight for Dr Samura Kamara and Hon. Chericoco to win the next elections as he always referred to Hon. Chernor Bah as his political son.

He said people should not be discourage because they were struggling to secure jobs as that should not also warrant them to sit without voting as the government is working assiduously to provide job opportunities for them.

The chairman of the event, Momodu L. Kargbo who also doubles as the Minister of Finance informed the audience that APC is always together as a united force despite the division of the various Constituencies.

He explained that the gathering was not to talk politics; rather it was an event to thank the people after the Makeni Convention which led to the nomination of the deputy Speaker as running mate for the 2018 elections.

The colourful event took place last Sunday at Crab town playing field, Aberdeen new market via Aberdeen road in Freetown and attracted thousands of supporters and other sympathizers.
