The Commissioner pointed out that the strategy also makes available key transparency instruments such as Integrity Pacts and Integrity Pledges to enhance honesty, transparency and accountability in all MDAs.

The pledge, the ACC Commissioner Kamara recounted is a declaration made by all public officials, committing themselves to uphold Anti-Corruption Principles and institutional values.

Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara said the issue of corruption is a national concern and dealing with it is crucial to national development. The strategic objectives set out in pillar 7 of the Agenda for Prosperity amongst others are for the ACC to strengthen the accountability regime, deepen the recovery of government resources, broaden the focus on the revenue generation sectors and address wastages in government.

The ACC Commissioner charged that integrity pledge make a formal commitment to maintain integrity and best practice in their institutions in pursuit of improved public integrity and improved public service delivery. Commissioner Kamara maintained that the integrity pact on the other hand is a similar commitment signed between sector and the private sector to uphold integrity in their dealings especially when entering into a contract or investment transactions.

He said as part of the implementation of the Open Government Partnership National Action Plan, and the ACC being the lead agency on improving public integrity cluster; the pledge is there to commit MDAs to upholding integrity, transparency and accountability in their public transactions.

Over the years, the ACC and other partners have made tremendous efforts towards the strengthening of integrity, transparency and accountability through the declaration of assets and liabilities, production of service charters, establishment of integrity management committees in MDAs and recognition of role models as a way motivating the general public on standards of behavior.
