AK Security group is not even bothered about laws protecting workers, some of whom have left in frustration due to inhuman treatment meted on them. Most employees are yet to receive their salaries since October of last year while some have work for the past six months without a single cent.

Information gathered revealed that only few workers received up to five hundred thousand Leones at the end of the month while the rest of the workers get around three to four hundred thousand Leones which is below the stipulated amount of five hundred Leones. This is the situation employees at AK Security Company now found themselves.  On daily basis employees who have gone for the last six months or so without salary stormed the office asking for their pay but to no avail.

Abdulai is among employees but is yet to receive a single cent since taking up the job as a security at the company. He told a group of journalists that the past three months has been difficult for him. “I use moneys from goodwill gestures to go to work. I don’t even know how much is my salary because since I started working I have not received a single cent.  We are also not given employment letters and as such you don’t know your salary or condition of service. After the crash training you are posted to various locations and this how the company operates.

This is my third month without receiving salary and not even a single cent has been given to me as pay for the work I continue to do. We are also not treated as human beings, management will talk to you anyhow. They also use abusive language on workers but since employment is difficult in the country we continue to succumb to whatever condition”, he said.

Another employee Alhaji Kamara said since he took up employment with the company his salary has been fluctuating. Some months they will give me four hundred thousand Leones while sometimes I received three hundred or whatever they wish to. “If you are caught sleeping on duty fifty thousand Leones is deducted from your salary and this is inhuman. They don’t even warn you, this is how they continue to subject workers.  Some people have leaved the company without getting anything and the situation continue”.

Alhaji also noted that every day the company do crash training for new intake because they continue to lose workers daily. “This is the situation we are faced with as Sierra Leone as a result of lack of jobs and employment opportunities. The condition here is not a favorable one, the management is hostile and very unfriendly he said.

This reporter contacted the management of AK Security Company but proved very difficult to contain with. The office housing the security company presents itself in a hostile manner and even when I introduced myself as a journalist they said they do not care.

“Even if you are the governor who are not ready to talk to you while asking the guard that was manning the gate to close the door and not to allow anybody in. The hostility and arrogance displayed at the AK Security company is one that is not good for this country.

AK Security has contract with banking institutions including other agencies that paid for their services at the end on every month.  This is not reflective on the employees who struggle on daily basis to go to work while they received noting at the end of the month.
