Addressing staff of the hospital and District Health Management Team (DHMT) in the Bo Government Hospital Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) hall on Saturday February 4, 2017 during his first 2017 familiarization tour, the Chief Medical Officer reiterated the need for team work in achieving the desired goal of the Ministry for effective and efficient service delivery and encouraged the Medical Superintendent and the District Medical Officer to maintain the good working spirit.

He recalled the outbreak of the Ebola in Kalia village Bo district, and the successful intervention of the two leaderships to avert the spread of the disease.

Dr. Kargbo said shortly after his appointment as Chief Medical Officer he was face with the challenge of the Ebola outbreak but that with team work and support from partners they were able to overcome the threat and tragedy posed by the epidemic.

Commenting on the strategy to building a resilient health system, Dr. Kargbo spoke on the postings of Multi-Disciplinary staff to boost the area of human resource capacity, theNational Emergency Medical Service (NEMS) and the procurement of 163 Ambulances to promote effective referral service.

He said the ambulances will be stationed in chiefdoms and warned against its misuse, adding that using the ambulances for other purpose order than the designated service would lead to legal action.

Dr. Kargbo encouraged the hospital and DHMT staff to maintain the IPC measures noting that it has helped in saving lives especially against waterborne and food diseases, pointing out that the Ministry is working in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture Forestry and Food Security to address the area of diseases from animals and human.

He told the staff that the Health Sector Strategic Plan has to be prioritized interpreted by them for the uptake of basic essential services.

The Medical Superintendent, Dr. Gerald Younge and District Medical Officer, Dr. Alhaji Turay lauded the Chief Medical Officer for the visit they described as motivatingand briefed him about few challenges and development made in the hospital. The doctors pledged to continue the good work to advance the improvement of service delivery across the district.

Other key areas discussed includes security, human resource capacity, Blood Bank Services, Blood donors support, installation of oxygen plant, distribution of 13 Global Fund Trucks for drugs distribution nationwide, opportunities for In-country postgraduate training and other major activities to boost health system strengthening. An inspection  tour of various units in the hospital formed part of the visit.
