Therefore, as a way of strengthening the country’s health sector which during the Ebola epidemic has proved to have been weakened by the increase in the population rate of the country, the Deputy Minister of Health 1, Madam Madina S. Rahman, has launched the Supportive Supervision Tool for Health Facilities and Laboratory, Program.

This initiative will be aimed at meeting the health care needs and prevailing situations and also conduct comprehensive assessments of health centers whilst identifying gaps and other critical areas in need of improvement.

Since 2008, the heath care system of the country has said to undergo burden due to change and supervision in various areas of the health system is still yet to be improved.

Amid the implementation of this initiative, Madam Madina S. Rahman, Deputy Minister 1 of the Ministry of Health and Sanitation, said that management staff within the health system will also be able to identify their weaknesses, as this tool is to compliment supported and implemented guidelines of the Health Ministry. The Supportive System Tool Initiative for Health Care Facilities and Laboratories Program, Madam Rahman said, will include; Emergency Services, Facility Resources, Referral Management, Capacity Building, Facility Audits among others and she has promised to be very active in the implementation of this initiative so as to ensure its success.

The Minister of Health and Sanitation, Mr. Abu Bakarr Fofanah, applauded Madam Rahman on what he described as a “laudable venture” that will be supported by the Ministry of Health and Sanitation. He further inputted that with constant monitoring and supervision of health care facilities, the health care system will be easily improved while also advising that infrastructural development and logistical input be taken into consideration. He further called on health workers to support the initiative as it is not designed as a means of policing them but to help improve the country’s health system.

The Supportive System Tool is designed to undertake comprehensive assessment of Health Facilities which include Laboratories, Hospitals, Specialized Departments and Units within the Hospital. The tool itself does not address all administrative lapse but highlights key areas to be considered that are necessary for quality care and can facilitate effective service delivery which will ultimately serve as pointer for Managers and Key Stakeholders to take corrective actions whilst making recommendations aiming at resolving issues identified in their departments or hospitals.
