Giving a brief history about Parliament Mr. Turay said the chamber was built within six months to independent by the Israelites and was officially handed over on the eve of the country’s independent 26th April, 1961. Giving an overview of Parliament Mr. Turay continued that the President is a member of parliament but do not attend it sittings. Giving a description of Parliament he explained the meaning of the coat of Arm of the country which is Unity Freedom and justice, the nation’s flag the seating positions of the honorable, press and citizens who will want to observe the parliamentary proceedings.
Mr. Sheku said the speaker is the head of parliament and Act as a referee among the members ’and also he is responsible to make sure that honorable members when making their point do not talk against any other and maintain peace during parliamentary sessions. And there is also a deputy to the speaker who Act whenever the speaker is not around to continue his activities. Also the Parliament has a Clerk who is responsible for the administrative arm of parliament, documentations and he is also the secretary of the institution and also advice the speaker on constitutional and Standing Orders of Parliament.
The visitation ended with a tour to the library of parliament and the librarian Alhaji S. Kamara explained to the kids the roles and functions of the library.
