The reconstruction and expansion of Sierra Leone’s premier university is being undertaken through an agreement with the Arab Bank of Economic Development in Africa (BADEA).

According to sources closed to the project, US$36.65 million was procured for the project , which was provided by the following :  OFID-US$13 million ;  Saudi Fund-US$12 million; BADEA-US$8 million, and  the government of Sierra Leone US$3.65 million.

When the agreement was signed two years ago, the Principal of the college, Professor E.J.D. Thompson, called the project  “a celebration of a renewal of education and the quest for excellence and progress”. He also said that “it will create the physical environment that will enable quality learning which is in line with Pillar 3 of the Agenda for Prosperity”.

Professor S. Gbamanja, the Vice-Chancellor of the University said that the reconstruction will give back to Fourah Bay College its lost glory.
