“It is not about party or about colour,” she told her colleague MPS at the State Hall where the party was organized with hundreds of other guests that included the media and foreign dignitaries, and the leadership of Parliament. “This is about Parliament – where we are all one. As female MPs, this party and gift to Hon Bah (who happens to be my own son) is our way of appreciating his elevation as the next vice president-to be of Sierra Leone. He is someone that cuts across party lines, someone who as our Deputy Speaker has been there for us all. He is very respectful and humble, and is a mixer – he is someone who doesn’t treat anyone in Parliament along party lines. As the Parliamentary Female Caucus leader, we want to give you this gift, to show you how much we love you!”

In response, Hon CRM Bah said he is humbled by the gesture, something that he never knew about until the day before when he was intimated that he should be a guest at this event.

He said Parliament has always been like a family to him – a place where there is no colour except the interest of Sierra Leone, which is key.

“As a young man who entered Parliament in 2007, I have been honoured to meet and work with you all, and whatever I am today is because of you all. You have helped me to become the person that I am today, and I assure you that I will always continue to work with you, as this is the House of leadership where debates are happening…and I have cherished it time and time again.

“I thank you for this gift and for the party you have thrown to honour me as one of you that has been chosen by President Koroma as running mate to Dr Samura Kamara in next year’s polls. Let me assure you that Dr Samura and myself will continue to work with you all. I assure you that President Koroma told us in Makeni that he has tried in his own way for the young people…and that we should make sure we continue. That is what Dr Samura Kamara and I will focus on and continue doing.

“Now you will notice that members of the APC and the SLPP, and the Paramount Chiefs, are all here in support of me – that is the spirit we have in Parliament, and it is a message we want everyone to learn from that the peace and unity of Sierra Leone comes first. Down the road, its less than a few meters down to State House where I will be going but I and Dr Samura will continue to engage you all because this the House of leadership, this the House where debates are happening…and I have cherished it time and time and time again. So on behalf of myself, my family, and my party I want to thank you all for everything.”

Other speakers included Hon Helen Kuyembeh and Hon Navo Kaikai, both of them from the main Opposition SLPP.

“As female MPs, we want to send a strong message,” said Hon Navo Kaikai. “Our message is that we want a peaceful election in March 2018. And as MP for Constituency 001 in Kailahun in the East, I will be playing host to Hon Chernor Bah and Dr Samura Kamara when they visit the East – so let no one think that because I am SLPP, I shouldn’t do that. I will not only play host to them but to anyone that visit the East to campaign. This is what we want – a peaceful election, where there is no violence.”

This is the second endorsement that Hon CRM Bah has had from Parliament itself. A week earlier on Thursday 26 October 2017, the whole House showered praises and felicitations on him following his choice as running mate to Dr Samura Kamara.

“Hon Chernor Ramadan Maju Bah has a magnetic personality – he is someone who comports himself with dignity that is exceedingly respectful, with loyalty and sincerity of purpose,” said the Speaker of the House, Hon SBB Dumbuya. “He is someone that takes his work very seriously. I personally like him for his humility, which in fact is the foundation of all virtues. Indeed, he has stooped to conquer.

MPs on both sides of the aisle were profuse with praise and admiration, describing him as a servant-leader, someone that is indeed dynamic, caring, popular, and also very religious. His preferment as vice presidential candidate certainly came from God, they said.

The Paramount Chiefs too spoke in like manner, among them Hon PC Sheku Fasuluku Sonsiama and Hon PC Kailondo Banya.

“Hon Chernor Bah is someone that has enormous respect for traditional leaders. And, indeed, those who respect chiefs are always elevated,” they both said.

The Majority Leader, Hon Leonard Fofana, and the Acting Minority Leader, Hon. Ansumana J. Kaikai, each on behalf of his party congratulated the Deputy Speaker.

“Hon Chernor Bah’s nomination as running mate is a blessing to Parliament and to the country,” said Hon Leonard Fofana. “We all know Chernor positively touches every life he comes across. We wish him well in his vice presidential bid.”

In his response, the Deputy Speaker Hon CRM Bah said he appreciate the kind words and sentiments bestowed upon him by colleague MPs, and promised to continue working with them always even when he becomes the next vice president after the 2018 elections.

During this endorsement the galleries were packed to capacity with family, friends, party members, and well wishers.
