The Minister made this statement at the Ministry of Information and Communication’s weekly press conference at Youyi Build in Freetown

He said Sierra Leone does not have any labour information system at the moment but with support from the World Bank and the International Labour Organisation, the Ministry has conducted a survey across the country and data processing is in progress.

The Minister said the analysis and the report writing will commence early in January, adding that it will make Sierra Leone get a data base of employment system of people in employment and those unemployed in the country.

“Sierra Leone does not have accurate information on the employment and unemployment rate but with the introduction of the Labour Information System we will know how many young people are unemployed, and how many men and women are employed in the country,” he said.

He furthered that with the help of the Joint Consultative Committee (JCC), mandated by an Act of Parliament, they have been able to come out with a minimum wage to address the challenges faced by employees in the country.
