This was according to a statement issued out yesterday 5th November, 2019 by the Makeni City Council (MCC) which revealed that the service was suspended due to disagreement on amount to be paid to the bus drivers as monthly salary.

According to the MCC, 6 drivers were recruited by the Ministry of Transport and Aviation and sent to Bombali for school bus service operations, with a determined salary without recourse to the MCC on its salary scale.

The Council said it has now been discovered that the school bus proceeds cannot address fuel purchase for the operations, as well as the payment of salaries to the drivers.

For this, the Council went on, on 4th December the drivers were invited to a meeting to renegotiate the amount stated as salary in their appointment letters by the transport ministry which according to the Council, does not speak to its salary scale as an institution.
The MCC said at the meeting, its new salary offer was declined by the drivers and they have enhance forth stopped working.

However, the management of the school buses together with the MCC will be meeting the relevant authorities of the ministry to ensure the schools buses operation is back.
