On the contrary, at a news conference held yesterday at the main country office, situated at Aberdeen, Marie Stopes had lucidly condemned as well as denied the allegation of being associated with what they referred to as forgery and the dejection of those who included in the pseudo list.
According to the Country Director of Marie Stopes, DR Ufuoma Festus Omo- Obi in his statement during the news conference described the said list as forgery as he further condemned the creation as well as the circulation of the list.
He stressed that the list was a ploy to cause emotional distress and depression for those who are on the list, added that the pseudo list aimed at damaging the reputation of Marie Stopes Sierra Leone , he affirmed that their institution would never circulate, publish , share or disclose the data of their clients in any forum.
He pointed out that they have been in operations for over thirty years in Sierra Leone and their efficient and effective service delivery had been regarded as the highest clinical and ethical standard, including client safety and confidentiality.
‘’ on behalf of the Management and Staff, we wish for the general public to know and understand that Marie Stopes SL is neither the creator nor the author or a party to the circulation of such intimidating list , we condemned that action in the strongest and highest terms, as we have already informed the appropriate authorities to thoroughly investigate the origination of the list” Dr. Omo Obi uttered, as he mentioned that the list was a ploy to undermine President Koroma agenda for prosperity and his proprieties for the health sector.
Communication Coordinator National Aids Secretariat, Abubakar Koroma said that they have been working with Marie Stopes for years still going and they had total confidentiality on Marie Stopes, he furthered that they viewed the list as an attempt to disrupt the relentless effort being made to eradicate HIV and Aids in the nation, he affirmed that their partner would never did such a mischievous act.
He maintained that throughout the years they had worked with Marie Stopes, and that Marie Stopes had never breach their established confidentiality.
‘’ because of the trust that Marie Stopes has established with us, we strongly condemned the said list and we are going to fish out who is hiding behind the said list, and whosoever found guilty will face the full penalty of the law of the land.” Koroma stated.
He made it clear that publishing the HIV and Aids status of a client without his or her consent is crime under the National HIV and Aids Commission Act, 2011.
