Resident says 22 year old Mariama was found hanging in an unfinished room in a nearby building to her family compound in Koinadugu districts. Suicide is suspected. They said that the decease just arrived back in Sierra Leone from Senegal, after she was forced into early marriage by her parent some seven (7) years ago. She came back home expecting to have received pampering and protection from her parent (father), but she received adverse frustration and sometime death threat by her father who singularly forced her into early child marriage.

According to her mother, she cannot explain what went wrong with her daughter that led to her death. But what seem clear was that she was devastated upon her arrival from Senegal. My daughter had always wanted to be a n accounted, she said, but going into early was something I never favored, she commented. He father had to think tradition forgotten the future of this bright, intelligent and beautiful daughter, she cried. 

Some of her friends said they cannot explain what happened and the core as to why he would commit suicide. Rumors going around Koinadugu indicate that the young lady killed herself because he was provoked by the attitudes of her father.

Her father has renege talking to the press to the press, saying he has no hands in her daughter’s death. Her stubbornness has landed her in such a tragic situation, this is not what I had wished for her, he concludes.

Koinadugu district Police were informed and rushed to the scene. Mariama’s body was taken to the government mortuary and his family was questioned at the Police Station.
According to the police, the lady used a thin rope from a mosquito net to tie around her neck. She tied the rope to a roofing frame and climbed a ladder.
This is not the first time for people to commit suicide in district. Similar incidents have occurred in the past when another 18-year old girl hung herself in her room at Diang Chiefdom – Kondembaia.
