According to the Director General of NASSIT Fouad Dabor, Hassan is not the qualified beneficiary to his late father’s pension but wanted to collect his late father’s pension by submitting fake documentation to support his claim that he is the right beneficiary. One of the primary mandates of NASSIT according to the Director General is to ensure that payment of lost income is paid to eligible beneficiaries. He went on to say that whenever claims of pension are made, NASSIT investigates to ensure that payment is made to the eligible beneficiaries. He said Hassan Kargbo was tracked due by their independent investigation team to ascertain that he is the right beneficiary. He maintained that the claim made by Hassan to be the eligible beneficiary was false and that the claim he made about his step-mother being dead was also false.
Following their investigation, Hassan Kargbo was called to collect the cheque of his late father’s benefit while at the same time his allegedly dead step-mother was also invited. He said that verifying claims has been some of the challenges NASSIT faces when it comes to payment of pensions. He noted that NASSIT has at times been accused of delaying payment when in actual fact all they are doing is investigating to ensure that the right people are paid.
Haja Dankay is the only surviving wife of the late man and one of the direct beneficiaries. She expressed her surprise over the attitude of her step-son. She said since the death of her late husband, her step-son has been maltreating her to the point that he even drove her out of the house and collected all her late husband’s document from her. She further said that her step-son has been summoned by different families but he refused to show up. Haja Dankay added that this is the second time she set eyes on him after the death of her husband.
Hassan is currently helping the Criminal Investigations Department with investigations into the false documents he presented to NASST by Hassan claiming that all the three wives of his late father are dead.
