King also disclosed that as national entities like, the births and deaths was doing civil registration of births and deaths, the National Registration secretariat was doing registration of identity cards, National Electoral Commission was doing civil registration of voter register identification cards.

According to him, the new strategy was intended to have an integrated civil registration where every civil registration would be done a well constituted and funded national entity called the National Civil Registration Authority, such as registration of births and deaths, marriage, divorce or multipurpose national identity cards.

The National Civil Registration Secretariat, he said has now been replaced the National Civil Registration Authority, and it was long overdue for Sierra Leone to have the convergent civil registration entity to take account of people living within the borders of Sierra Leone.

“As I speak, concrete measures have been put in place to develop and advance the capacity of staff of the authority, who would be conducting registration processes of marriages, births and deaths, or multipurpose identity cards, as it is a modernized system recommended for international best practices,” Mr. King said.

He urged every Sierra Leoneans to cooperate and give the authority support and wherewithal, so as to enable the National Civil Registration Authority  surmount numerous challenges ahead, and at the same time assist the central government in the national budget planning exercise and allocation to various regions in the country. 

Concluding, the outreach officer assured the general public and the people of this country that, the process of registration as required by law was not only a step in the right direction, but a deliberate and calculated posture to put an end to archaic system of registration, and come with such a potent national strategy, designed to account for people living within the borders of Sierra Leone.
