In presenting the letter of Credence, Dr. Braimoh reaffirmed UNICEF’s commitment to supporting the Government of Sierra Leone towards improving the situation of children in the areas of Child Health and Nutrition, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, Child Protection and Education.

“My predecessors at UNICEF have worked closely with the Government of Sierra Leone towards meeting global commitments to children such as those in the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Sustainable Development Goals,” said Dr. Braimoh. “I would like to guarantee you that during my tenure, I will work closely with the Government to further deepen and strengthen the relations between UNICEF and Government as we focus on achieving more results for children.”

In welcoming Dr. Braimoh and accepting his credentials, Hon. Tunis said she looks forward to continuing the close working relations with UNICEF.

“We have had a cordial relationship with UNICEF over the past years, and we hope to maintain that with you at the helm of the organization,’” said Hon. Tunis.

A national of Nigeria, Dr. Braimoh’ s career with UNICEF spans over 21 years of serving in different senior capacities. Prior to this new appointment, he was UNICEF Representative for Liberia (2016 – 2019), Eretria (2013 – 2016) and for Guyana and Suriname (2009 – 2013). He has also served as UNICEF Regional Chief of Programmes and Planning for South Asia, UNICEF Planning Officer and Head of Planning Unit, Division of Human based in New York and as UNICEF Chief of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Section based in Lagos, Nigeria.

Dr. Braimoh holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Sociology, University of Wisconsin, Madison, USA, Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Sociology, University of Wisconsin, Madison, USA and a Bachelor of Science, Honours (B.Sc, Hons) in Sociology and Anthropology from the University of Benin, Benin City, Nigeria.
