This was according to NEC’s Director of Internal and External Relations, Albert Massaquoi who confirmed to AYV newspaper that the Commission is putting modalities in place for the holding of the elections on June 16.

Andrew Raka Kanu is the District Electoral and Returning Officer in Port Loko district. He explained that the two elections in Ward 234 and 235 were not by-elections as they were deferred due to some technicalities that occurred during the boundary delimitation process.

He further disclosed that NEC has already received nominations from the All People’s Congress (APC), Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), National Grand Coalition (NGC) and some from a few Independent Candidates.

He lamented however that NEC still heavily relies on government funding to conduct these deferred elections. He used the opportunity to call on other stakeholders including UNDP, Irish Aid among others to come to the aid of NEC.

He pointed out that NEC has already met with the candidates, adding that it is possible that these elections could coincide with the Muslim Pray Day -Eid-ul Fitr.”
