To help address this problem, On Tuesday 14th May, 2019, seven (7) cartoons of solar lanterns were handed over to the Medical Superintendent of Moyamba District by some staff of the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

Speaking at the donation ceremony, Akao Kunikazu who is a project Manager at IOM Sierra Leone stated that they received the solar lamps from Panasonic Company in Japan for onward distribution to health centers especially PHUs in remote areas that in dire need of electricity in Sierra Leone.

“As we are doing this donation today, we will be visiting Moyamba from time to time to monitor whether if the PHUs are using the solar lamps” Mr. Kunikazu added.

Receiving the items on behalf of the Moyamba District Health Management Team, Gregory Bajaalah Medical Superintendent of the District thanked IOM and Panasonic for what he described as a laudable gesture. “We are really excited about this donation and we will make sure that the solar lamps are utilized by the PHUs accordingly” Mr. Bajaalah said.
