In the light of this, members of the public are reminded of the obligations of citizens as contained in Section 13 of the Constitution of Sierra Leone (1991) under the heading, “Duties of the citizen.”

Furthermore, Parliament being a house of records, would encourage the CHRDI to produce documentary evidence backing those claims, e.g. that Le 120 billion have been allocated to or spent by Parliamentarians in the last five years.

Media owners are also advised to pay heed to the obligation for accuracy and responsibility as per the Media Code of Practice (articles 1 &2).

Parliament therefore wishes to assure the public that though the House is in recess, necessary steps are being taken to adequately address these allegations, which it considers spurious and misleading, in an open and transparent manner.
