Patricia Kanneh-Fitzgerald to help solve the problem of lack of access to computers faced by students.

Fourah Bay College, Established in 1827, was the then acclaimed  Athens of West Africa currently  face with challenges  such as, access  to computers,  a major  problem  affecting  students education.

The donation ceremony brought together the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Fourah bay college, Professor Sahr Gbamanja, the Deputy Registrar, Mrs. Domingo, Junior staff and the media.

Speaking during the donation ceremony held at the Deputy Vice Chancellor’s office Mount Aureole, Patricia Kanneh-Fitzgerald, a Sierra Leonean based in the United kingdom said that she decided to donate to Fourah bay college because education at Fourah bay college has gone down the drain because of the absent of modern technology such as computer for student to do research work.

Patricia Kanneh-Fitzgerald has been in the United kingdom (UK) for over twenty-nine years and because of the negative things she hear on different media outlets with regard of poor standard of education at Fourah bay college prompted her to donate these computers to boost education in that institution especially with ICT has a major tool used or development and urge other Sierra Leoneans living in the Diaspora to give to their country.

Receiving the computers, the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone, Professor Gbamanja supported the statement   made by Patricia Kanneh-Fitzgerald that Fourah Bay College has been faced with   challenges but, however, assured her that the Government together with the college authorities are working to restore the good image of the collage.

Professor  Gbamanja  disclosing that the government together with the collage authorities are  working on a thirty six million dollars project to renovate the hostels  and also build new ones  for  student to reside stating that  students of FBC  have been suspended from taking lectures in order to allow them to complete their registration.

  He also thanked Madam Patricia Kanneh-fitzgerald for the donation and called on other Sierra Leoneans in the Diaspora to support the college in their own little stating that no amount of contributions is too big or small  

 

it is believe that such donation will help  boost education at Fourah Bay College, as students and lecturers now have the opportunity to  study online and do their research.
