The Sierra Leone Police have on December 1, 2024 declared Basiru Mansaray who is a local Ward Chairperson for the Opposition APC party wanted for various offenses including Incitement, Riotous Conduct and Attempted Coup against the current President of Sierra Leone.

According to the Sierra Leone Police, Basiru Mansaray of 23 Becles Lane first evaded police invitation and investigations in January 2024, after community elders and residents in Brookfields reported him for inciting youth within the Community, where he is a ward chair person

Police explained that on the 21th January 2023, Basiru Mansaray left for the UK running from law enforcement agencies.  He was however told by relatives back home that he has been a declared wanted with allegations that he was the person hosting Abdulai Kuata who he is wanted at CID.

It was also revealed by the Police  that during his stay in the community, he aided and abated a well-known fugitive. The issues was reported by residents to the police.

The police said from intelligence received, after evading police invitation in January 2024 over the secret-society-investigations, Basiru Mansaray was doing public Lectures on the abuse of drugs in society which he has been doing on social media and notable media houses.

In one of these public lectures Basiru Mansaray ends up blaming the government for the too many drugs on the loose for youth to use.

The Police told journalists that they have released a toll-free line for citizens to help them with information about their whereabouts.

Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio has said that the circumstances will be “fully investigated”. Youth Minister Mohamed Orman Bangura referred to the protests as an “act of terrorism”.

Reports say there have been series of secret night raids conducted by police and community people loyal to government allegedly shooting and killing of relatives of protesters listed on police wanted list.
