Madam Micahaella Sallu, founder and National coordinator for WAI-SL, said it is a clear manifestation that many Sierra Leonean women now effectively operate outside their traditional box as they now occupy businesses and office places, both in the private and public sectors through conduct and skills, clearly indicating that things are now evolving due to the wind of change. She continues that in Sierra Leone, it is extremely difficult for a man to keep strictly within the Man’s Box. Circumstances could arise whereby a man either consciously or sub-consciously steps outside his responsibility or needs help. Also, in trying to keep within the Man’s Box, men sometimes send a message of patriarchy, dominance and other forms of exploitation to their wives and kids.

She added that, as the Women Against Inhumanities Sierra Leone (WAI-SL) is calling on Sierra Leoneans to join celebrate the International Women’s Day, they also want to inform the government and Non-governmental organizations of the difficulties that the underprivileged  (women and girls) are facing when it comes to expressing their views, especially in the design and implementation of development projects intended to picture their suffering. She continue that they also appreciate that power can be a non-zero-sum game and “the growth of a woman does not precipitate or decline a man” so therefore, the ultimate goal of empowering women is to ensure that men and women as well as boys and girls grow together and are provided with equal opportunities as partners in development.

She concluded by saying as their organization joins women across the world to celebrate the International Women’s Day 2017 they are asking women to BeBoldForChange. She also calls on all to help forge a better working and gender inclusive world, through purposeful collaboration and together we all can help women acquire, advance and unleash the limitless potentials offered to economies around the world.
