British medical officials who served in the Ebola response centre in Kerry Town introduced the RDITF; a mechanism that was set up as an immediate response to areas where Ebola-related cases re-emerged.

With joint support from RSLAF, Health Ministry, WHO and International Security and Training (ISAT), the facility was endorsed to be well in place and with it a tendency to respond to any outbreak that might occur within the borders of Sierra Leone.

Speaking during the event, Commander Joint Force Unit, Major General Mamadi Keita, expressed appreciation of the work of the UK Government, adding that the facility is a national asset that was borne as a result of the Ebola Virus Disease.

He said the “laudable initiative” is worth commending, and contemplated that had such a system been available in the country at the time when the virus struck, they would have been in control to address the EVD outbreak more efficiently.

Lieutenant Dr. Mohamed Boie Jalloh, Clinical Head of the Treatment Facility, said the lack of the facility at the time the virus struck, created more room for the virus to spread and devastate the country. He assured that with RSLAF’s credibility to excel with such facilities, the project is sure to succeed.

Representatives ISAT escorted RSLAF personnel throughout the visitor’s day tour; with the Head of Short-term Training Team, Major Caroline Vincent calling on the Government of Sierra Leone to respond swiftly to electricity and water facilities that are of dire need at the site.

Meanwhile, Lieutenant Cornel Nick Nicholson reminded that they have played their own role in the project and cautioned that military personnel need to take full control of the facilities in order to ensure the project runs sustainably.
