According to the tournament coordinator, Abdul ‘Koko’ Sesay, a total of fourteen schools will battle for this year’s SIERRA EYE Magazine Inter Secondary School championship organised by the Sierra Leone Cricket Association in collaboration with the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (SLCA).

“Already we’ve divided the schools into two groups of which four are expected to advance to the semi-finals after playing six matches from their respective groups,” Sesay said, adding that this year’s tournament is strictly for the pupils.

The tournament coordinator further revealed that this is the first time trophies and medals will be presented to the champions, runners-up and third place finish.

He said: “For the first time, schools and individual players will receive gold, silver and bronze medals including trophies for winning and outstanding performances.”

Speaking on the sponsorship, Managing Editor and founder of Sierra Eye Magazine, Mrs. Basita Michael ESQ, said, she decided to sponsor this year’s tourney because sport goes with education; with the aim of catching them when they are young.

She further emphasised on the point of complementing the efforts of SLCA and government, through the Ministry of Basic and Senior Secretary Education for creating the platform for school going pupils to execute their sporting talents.

“Sierra Eye Magazine has gone beyond Magazine publication, we’ve organised few debates of national interest as well as other activities, and therefore, supporting school sports within the stipulated time in the academic calendar could also be of great significance as it deals with the psychomotor aspects of academic learning” Mrs. Michael stated.

Methodist Boys High School Physical Education teacher, Ahmed G. O. Kamara, said they are in the tournament to do their best and see how it goes for them.

He further said, they are hopeful of making it to the semi-finals despite playing under difficult time because of exams ongoing, but he still believes his boys will cope with the competition.

The ten days event according to the tournament fixtures, is expected to end on the 20th December 2018, as schools will eventually close marking the end of first time.
