He stated that the reviewed work was presented to cabinet, wherein discussions for possible action to be taken, through the office of the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, are in progress.

 “…at the moment the subcommittee is in session because at the end of the day we want to make sure that by the time we present the report to the house of parliament as a white paper, there won’t be much to discus.” Bayraytay added,

He mentioned that few days ago President Koroma updated the people of this nation  that there are no controversies with  the white paper, and that the government is going to abide by the provision stated in the 1991 national constitution regarding the tenure of the presidency.

He further confirmed that the 1991 constitution was not suspended as it happens to be the constitution that is in force and his party believed in constitutional democracy, whiles ascertaining that all the provisions in the 1991 constitution is intact and effective.

The flagbearer aspirant for Sierra Leone Peoples party,  Dr. Alie Kabba said the clock was running and that the country’s national elections is forthcoming , adding that the focus should be on the next general elections to ensure that the general elections is conducted in a manner that no one should question the outcome of the elections.

Dr. Kabba confirmed that they were in favor of the constitution review and the white paper was an excellent national document.

He furthered that the constitutional review and the conduct of elections required huge funding and that if funds are not available, the entire process will not actualized as planned and the country would not like to increase its deficit.

 He emphasized that the country should try as best as possible to utilize its limited resources to make sure the national electoral commission conduct the March 7 parliamentary and presidential elections.

Dr. Kabba reiterated that the referendum should be put aside and utilized the limited resources plus donor supports towards ensuring the forthcoming elections.

 He reaffirmed that the public should be engaged and that at the moment there is no public education to raise awareness on key elements embedded in referendum.

“if  we don’t have money to conduct elections in March 2018,  that is a serious issue for all to consider, I am not saying the referendum is not important, but the time line should be treated with all serious its deserves.
