She maintained that the current spate of tribal and regional rhetoric is fueling hate speech, regionalism, arson attacks, robbery, destruction of market stalls and many other violent and illegal acts that threaten the peace of the state. She therefore called on the Inspector General of Police to maintain law, order and discipline across the country.

Addressing the women, Inspector General of Sierra Leone Police, Dr. Richard Moigbe stated that the current rate of violence and messages being preached by politician is a concern for public security especially as the country is heading to the presidential run-off.

The Inspector General of Police however noted that the existence of the SLP is to ensure that Sierra Leone maintains its peaceful nature, adding that the SLP’s mandate is to protect lives and properties.

He therefore appealed to officers of the Sierra Leone Police to be fair, impartial and professional in dispensing their duties.

“It is an offense for any police personnel to go undercover in supporting a political party by creating competitive advantage over the others. If caught, we would not only dismiss that officer but the officer will be prosecuted and sentenced if found guilty,” the Inspector General said.
