The Deputy Director in the Ministry of Energy and Power, Engineer Paul Saffa, said when the new Energy Minister resumed office he was depressed over the several reports of faulty transformers in different communities in Freetown and thus made him to prioritize the provision of the transformers for the two communities.

“Today, our Minister is pleased and satisfied to install new transformers in a strategic community like Orogu within four months in office,” Engineer Saffa said, adding that the people should take up the responsibility of ensuring that the transformers are protected.

He said the ministry’s mandate is to ensure the people of Sierra Leone enjoy adequate electricity and that the ministry will ensure the challenges of faulty transformers will be addressed.

Addressing community people at the transformer installation ceremony at the Jui Community, the Development Communication Consultant in the Ministry of Energy, Manmade Ngobeh Kamara, admonished her audience to be watchful and report any misuse of electricity in their community to the ministry.

She said the Ministry of Energy is in the process of conserving energy to minimize the use of energy and secure more electricity for other communities in the country. She also encouraged the people to be mindful of the use of their various electrical appliances and further warned them not to encourage any illegal connection from any community from the transformer.

The Chairman for the light committee, Jui community, Kamijaba Saidu said they have been working with the National Power Authority for the replacement of the transformer, noting that they will be watchful for any illegal connection.

The Chairlady of the Orugu Community, Madam Ayoh Dele Dickson, expressed her gratitude to the Ministry for the 350 KVA transformer installed in their community and further promised to not only report all illegal connections from the transformer to the ministry, but also report any speck of malfunction that is noticed on the output of the transformer.
