The summit is preceded by the Ministerial Meeting, which started on Thursday 14 January.

In her welcome statement at the Ministerial Meeting in preparation of the Summit, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Hon. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah said Namibia took the decision to host the Summit out of the conviction that Africa needs to remain resolute in its demands for the reform of the UN Security Council. “Your attendance here today is a demonstration of our commitment to the mandate of the C-10, by taking stock of our work in the fulfilment of this important assignment,” she said.

The summit will play a pivotal role in accelerating efforts to not just canvass support, but also promote the African Common Position as encapsulated in the Ezulwini Consensus and Sirte Declaration. The one day summit will take place tomorrow Friday 15 January.

On arrival at the Windhoek Hosea Kutako International Airport, President Koroma was given a red carpet welcome and was received by the Deputy Prime Minister of Namibia, Minister of Local Government and several senior government officials of the Government of Namibia.

A Guard of honour was lined up for him and was also presented with a bouquet of flowers.

A Banquet was later thrown by the host, President Hage Gottfried Geingob who said that the issue of the reform of the Security Council was very dear to Africa.

President of Equatorial Guinea Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo described the summit as crucial to Africa taking its rightful place in the world.
