“The big issue in Kenema happened to be the regular burning down of structures, even when you are happy you have to burn down something to portray your happiness, is there a demon responsible for that because you have been burning several state properties and that ensued massive cost to the government and the nation’s people, but if such occurred again, no development will come to Kenema again.” President Koroma added.

President Koroma said the Kenema people have been constantly burning down structures, as a way of expressing whether they are happy or not. The president went further to ask the people of Kenema, about their problems relating to the issue of burning down structures that meant for development.

President Koroma told them that the recent spate of fire incident was alarming as he cautioned  Kenema people’s and encouraged them to welcome development in their district, a situation he said will foster development in Kenema together with national development.

On the contrary, the Kenema Government Hospital Secretary, Joseph Kamara stated that the president statement was political, as he noted that he was not around when the fire incident occurred and that no building had been burnt in his tenure.

Joseph Kamara maintained that it was electrical problem that caused the fire in the hospital as he was told by those who witnessed the occurrence, and that the issue was as a result of the lack of maintenance culture, as most state buildings have not been renovated in Sierra Leone, as well as in most Africa countries.

District Medical Officer, Kenema Government Hospital, Dr. Samuel Vandy stated that they have been taking the necessary precaution, even before the president mentioned that adding that they will try to prevent such from happening. Dr. Vandy promised adhering to the president warning as he encouraged his colleagues to also do the same, by reechoing the president warning to them.
