Delivering the press statement, Administrative and Finance Officer, Democracy Sierra Leone, Tamba Koroma said in contribution to our democratic principles, Sierra Leone has two forthcoming crucial activities, the referendum as well as the civil and voter registration.

According to Tamba Koroma, these two issues would lead the nation to the forthcoming general elections, slated for March 7, 2018. He further stated that the aforementioned electioneering processes would required the involvement of civil society organizations, in order to ensure that citizens made informed decisions and judgments.

“this press briefing is to make a general plea to the appropriate authorities, including the general public and all stakeholder involved the country’s electioneering process to thoroughly address the issue of referendum and voters registration process, in order to ensure peaceful and vigorous elections”

Responding to questions, Managing Director, Democracy Sierra Leone, Alhaji Mohamed Warrisay said Sierra Leoneans have been agitating for the review of the 1991 constitution of Sierra Leone since 2002. He added that the people should made use of the current opportunity provided in the ongoing constitutional review process, to thoroughly review the constitution before elections, as there was no established fact that the next government would focus on reviewing the country’s constitution, Warrisay ascertained.

Warrisay advised that the need for an extension of the voter registration centers and the time frame for the registration process could not be over emphasized.
