A chicken seller, who informed this medium that his survival together with his wife and four children solely depended on his chicken buying and selling, Ibrahim Kamara submitted that the unending price mountaineering of chicken whole sale prices would eventually, crippled his business.
He further explained that the price hiking is sudden and instantaneous, “we used to obtain chicken from our investors for Le 80,000 but as it is currently, the price for a carton chicken is Le 105,000…the sole aim of a business is to maximize profits, unfortunately, with the current price one cannot even realize his capital, before talking about profit,” Quoting Ibrahim.
Another chicken monger, Hassanatu Kanu submitted that trading in chicken had been a lucrative business initially; she vividly blamed the appropriate authority responsible to regulate and control prices in the country. She further pointed that the country had no proper system to manage price of commodities, as a woman and chicken trader she promised that she would austerely involved in the forthcoming strike action, if their distressed had not been considerably handled.
Publicity and Outreach Coordinator in the Office of the Government Spokesman, Ajibu Tejan Jalloh encouraged traders to maintain peace and tranquility in the country.
“Firstly, I wants to commend all of you for being a responsible citizens, you channel your approach appropriately. We should engage in consultation, not confrontation, as responsible government, we will definitely address your current issue” the government spokesman promised.
Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Ibrahim Mansaray promised to adequately salvage the current situation of the traders. He further stated that the business of the government in the current situation was to constructively dialogue with the parties involved, in order to meet an appropriate agreement that will salvage the situation.
