Sierra Leone’s Public Account Committee (PAC) in the country’s parliament has celebrated the Rokel Commercial Bank for its healthy management approach.
Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Ibrahim Tawa Conteh, also serving at Committee Chairman showered praises to the institution for a healthy management system.
This came after a thorough look into the 2022 Auditor General’s Report on queries the report came up with against the bank. The issues include duplication if ID records, appraisals of staff, issues around contract and permanent staff records, transaction amongst others.
These among other issues were sufficiently and efficiently clarified by the Deputy Managing Director in line with the standard procedure which was approved by the Committee.
The Deputy Managing Director was able to efficiently address all the queries raised and the Committee gave a special praise to the Bank for not only coming and responding to queries but for keeping a bank that is healthy, and for quickly able to understand issues.
Hon. Tawa said: “We resolve this issue but don’t take your eyes off the board because if you received a kudos, it is for a good reason which is your good performance. You should continue on that good performance so that you will earn more praises and possibly promotions,” the Chairman ruled with admonishment.
Samuel Borbor, Deputy Managing Director, Rokel Commercial Bank said as a management they feel proud to be commended by politicians, noting every citizen is looking towards that, adding this will serve as a catalyst to other Sierra Leoneans to doing their best in moving the country forward.
He said: “We were given an excellent hearing and the chairman closing remarks is a clear manifestation that we should be happy”, pointing out that the 2024 Audit Report will be an excellent one. He stated that in business, issues happened but for his banking institution they will mitigate to avoid cash lost to people he referred to as ‘criminals’ while encouraging their customers to continue bank with them.
