In a tweet, the United States Ambassador to Sierra Leone, David Bryan Hunt, commended all stakeholders involved in the recent Tripartite Committee conference, highlighting the collaborative efforts of the SLPP government led by President Julius Maada Bio and the main opposition APC party under Dr. Samura Kamara.
Ambassador Hunt said: “We equally applaud the President’s wise decision to extend the commission’s mandate briefly to allow it to finalise its historic task. We share the public’s eagerness to see the final report and urge all to remain patient and allow the commission the time and space required to carry out its mandate with the thoroughness and serious deliberation that such a monumental undertaking requires”.
The conference saw both the Government of Sierra Leone and the APC releasing a joint statement emphasizing their commitment to cooperation and mutual dedication to electoral justice, reforms, peace, and national cohesion.
The Tripartite Committee, formed under Resolution Three of the Agreement for National Unity, is tasked with examining the electoral systems, structures, and processes of the 2023 multi-tier electoral cycle. This includes addressing issues related to the collation, verification, authentication, and publishing of electoral data to enhance the credibility of future elections.
It was agreed that the recommendation process would be completed within ten days, a move both parties believe is crucial for ensuring the integrity and transparency of Sierra Leone’s electoral framework.
