Marie Kamara made this disclosure while speaking to AYV on how she and her daughter are coping since her husband passed away.

It was two years ago when the earth opened its belly and swallowed thousands of lives following heavy downpour just after midnight on August 13th 2017 in the outskirts of Sierra Leone’s capital, Freetown.

Like many others, Kelvin Kamara, alias America Stress who many people can remember for his heroic performance during and after the flash flooding in his community is not an exception of neglect and abandoned by the government despite him sacrificing his life to save other people.

The wife added that her husband became sick and was diagnosed with Pneumonia and was admitted at the Satellite Hospital following his work during the flash flood period and that he later died on 6th April 2018 as a result of the illness.

“Kelvin after the mudslide and flash flood was very proactive and was even advocating and collecting money and donations from the Diaspora to support mudslide and flash flood survivors,” she added.

She noted that aside from the government’s neglect of her husband, the relatives of her late husband have also abandoned her and her child, adding that young Natasha is now three years old and is to enroll in school.

She disclosed further that she has been embarking on selling sachet water in the streets to sustain her livelihood and take care of young Natasha and also to keep alive the Kelvin Foundation.

“I am calling on the government and non-government organizations to help keep my husband’s dream alive through his foundation,” she pleaded.
