Vice President Kwesi Amissah Arthur made the call on Saturday evening 9th May 2015, when he met the President of Sierra Leone Ernest Bai koroma during a stopover at the Kotoka international Airport.
Briefing the press on his Arrival from Zambia, President Koroma stated that he was in Ghana for a brief stopover in order to do refueling after attending an African Union summit Union Committee of Ten on the UN Security Council Reform in Zambia, Livingstone in the Southern Province.
President Ernest Koroma stated that their aim that they are tasked with promoting and canvassing the African Union common position in the UN Security Council reform negotiations. Adding that it was an African Union initiative looking at the acceleration of the United Nation’s Reform,in the review process they would report and brief the AU at the next African union meeting. So that they champion it at the United Nation’s General Assembly as they turn 70 years.
On the issue of Ebola cases in Sierra Leone, he said they have made so far made substantial progress in the fight and are currently recording zero cases compared to the figures that they were recording some few months ago .Adding that the results are positive but would have to wait for the 42 days grace period to see if nothings happens then the world would decide and declare them Ebola free.
President Koroma took the occasion to thank the ECOWAS chairman President Mahama for the leadership role he played in making sure that they have come this by extinguishing Ebola, especially the resources and support that has motivated them to be on top of the situation and together with other countries and the donor support that they used in helping his country.
He said there are lessons to be learnt but are making progress, because taking a look at a country like Sierra Leone that came out of a problem with a devastating infrastructure building then all of a sudden Ebola strikes, so was calling for the need to have a permanent sub regional health system that can collaborate to help build a resilient heath system in the region.
