Speaking at the Conference Room of the ACC, Dr. Conteh described the ACC as a critical partner to the work of the Bank, adding that he is very appreciative of the support the Commission has been rendering to the Bank all this while. The Governor said he is looking forward to strengthening the relationship between the two institutions during his term.

The ACC Commissioner welcomed the Bank Governor and his team and congratulated him on his appointment. He said it is inevitable for the two institutions to collaborate-especially in the areas of addressing money laundering, where some public officers who work in the banking sector, sometimes conspire to commit offences of fraud and money laundering.

The ACC Commissioner makes reference to the Anti-Corruption Act 2008, which provides for the Commission to collaborate with other agencies in the fight against corruption in the country. He said, the Commission can also collaborate with Government agencies in areas of enforcement and prevention of corruption in public institutions through systems and processes reviews.

Mr. Macauley raised the issue of the failure of certain commercial banks to remit into the Consolidated Revenue Fund monies collected on behalf of Government beyond the stipulated 24 hours, especially when the Government always needs such monies to run the affairs of the State.

Responding, the Bank Governor said the issues raised by the ACC Commissioner are areas of serious concerns for which he will be willing to collaborate with the Commission to address.
