The Director of Disease Prevention and Control Programme in the Country, Dr Foday Dafae in response, as to how such valuable property from donor partners found its way to the streets for public sale, at the cost of Le 10,000 a pair said he could not believe the information revealed to him and said probably it might be some quantity of used PPE’s from a health facility.
When told that these were new protective clothing in plastic wrapping, Dr Dafae in a calm mood assured this medium that he will investigate the matter with the Director of Drugs and Medical Stores, noting that all drugs including equipment are under the custody of the Central Medical Stores, at New England, and if the PPE’s are not from the medical stores in Freetown, the protective clothing might have sneaked through from the District Health facilities, or from some Non-Governmental Organisation.
He called on members of the public to desist from buying PPE’s on the streets, stressing that “PPE’s are protective clothing made from special material to be used in infection prevention control and not as rain coats.”
Dr Foday Dafae in a firm mood said any member of the public who patronize in the sale or buying of the plastic protective clothing, meant for health purpose, will be arrested and prosecuted.
