He disclosed that the role of the Ministry of Health is to ensure that they provide services that are accessible, affordable and suitable to the people of Sierra Leone, adding that the vision is to ensure that they prevent, detect and respond to any infectious diseases that may occur in the country.

The Chief Medical Officer told the gathering that for the past years, the Ministry was faced with difficulties in terms of screening and isolating patients with Ebola. He said with support from Shevron through Kings Partnership, the Health Ministry benefited from the building that has been refurbished to an infectious disease centre, stating that it is a very big step, more especially when Connaught hospital is now a University Teaching Hospital.

He reiterated that all infectious cases that they see in the hospital will be isolated in this centre and at the same time patients who are known to have TB can also take their treatment from this centre.

Dr. Kargbo informed his audience that Shevron through Kings Partnership rehabilitated the facility for the Management of the Connaught Teaching Hospital, adding that they should ensure that the building is completed on time and put in to use to the public as soon as possible.

A conducted tour of the various units of the centre formed part of the event.

In a related development, the Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Brima Kargbo also made an on the sport visit to the Cost Recovery and Revenue Collection, the Central Oxygen Production and Supply and the Dialysis Units of the Connaught Teaching Hospital to get first-hand information about the operations of the hospital.

The Chief Medical Officer was accompanied by the Deputy Chief Medical Director, University of Sierra Leone Teaching Hospital, Dr. Gibrilla Fadlu-Deen, the Hospital Secretary Foday Musa, Matron Isatu Kamara and the Medical Superintendent In-Charge of the National Eye Clinic, Dr. Matthew Vandy.
