Ambassador Daniel Schaer said his visit was a follow up to a meeting held in Brussels and also to deepen and strengthen the bilateral ties between the two countries.

In his response, the Hon. Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Dr. Alie Kabba reiterated that, the ‘New Direction’ Government is interested in strengthening and deepening ties with Estonia as there is a lot the two countries learn from each other.

He said Estonia and Sierra Leone are enjoyed an established diplomatic tie and that as a leading country in e-governance, appeals a lot as they are determined to transform the country.

Dr. Kabba said the ‘New Direction’ government is focused on innovation to move the country and to make it a better place for all.

Minister Kabba expressed his deep appreciation to the Estonian government for signing the MOU on innovation and that the Director of Science and Innovation is willing and excited to work with them especially in the area of exchange of knowledge.

Dr. Kabba told the Ambassador that, His Excellency is very passionate about e-Governance academy and innovation as his vision is to use science, technology and innovation to move the country forward and to support his government in delivering on its National Development Plan effectively and efficiently.

He said the mandate of the government of His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio on the e-government Academy is to create and transform knowledge and best practice in the area of digital transformation on e-governance, e-democracy and national cybersecurity.

 As a country, Minister Kabba said they value the role played by Estonians in espousing multilateralism as a key cornerstone of international relations, and that they appreciated their focus on peace and security issues as they are pivotal to them.

Ambassador Daniel Schaer was accompanied by Endrik Raun, Counsellor, UN Security Council Campaign Task Force.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Nimatulai Bah-Chang, Director General and Ambassador-at-Large, Ambassador Paul A.S. Minah, Deputy Director General-Policy/Director of Protocol, Dr. Joe Nyuma and Deputy Director Africa Division.
